I had my first day of orientation for my new teaching job today. So far so good. I especially liked one of the quotes they shared with us:
“Give a man a fish and you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in the boat and drink beer all day.”
I remember we rented a small house at the shore one summer and there was this sign on the wall, which I have always remebered. It said: "A fisherman is just a jerk standing at one end of a line waiting for a jerk at the other end."
Steven Wright also displayed some wisdom on fishing when he said that "There is a FINE LINE between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot."

"A fishing rod is a stick with a hook at one end and a fool at the other."
Samuel Johnson
"Last year I went fishing with Salvador Dali. He was using a dotted line. He caught every other fish."
Steven Wright
I see your Steven Wright and raise you a Samuel Johnson.

Here are some other take-offs on the "teach a man to fish" proverb:
“Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Unless he doesn't like sushi—then you also have to teach him to cook.”
"Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and run the risk of overfishing, contravening EU fishing policy, reducing the biodiversity of the world's oceans and increasing the economic decline of our once-great fishing industry."

Excuse me - must redo here - quit with the fish - forget human/fish related activities - and progress to humans and books, instruments, and making beautiful sounds into the atmosphere.

Thanks so much for your input. I was wondering where to get free ring tones because it's so hard to find those these days.
