Halloween 2010

Halloween Highlights:

Ella:

"Trick or treat smell my feet, give me something good to eat."  (said ALL day)

"That's liscious." (delicious)

Oh and making me sing Happy Birthday to our Jack o lantern over and over...she equates candles and birthdays, so since he had one in him...I sang it a lot!

Fia:

After getting the goods at each door she would say "Do it again?"  in total stunned disbelief that this awesomeness was actually happening and I'm sure thinking that she better get to as many houses as possible before we came to our senses. 

Dress up + Candy = True love for Fia!

After going to our neighbor's house aka DD's house where they received their first treats, Fia said:

"Aww, DD's daddy loves me too much, he gives me treats!"

F&E:

I think I witnessed my first sugar high fall out...bedtime was UGLY! 

Liam:

Well pumpkins, glows sticks, CANDY, and fangs...what more is there to say?  The kid didn't want to stop!  Plus he went door to door sans parents with Katy so he was a happy kid. 

Oh, and the cape he wore was made by his grandma for Bill when he was little and was a vamp for Halloween.  One day I'll get a hold of a copy and scan it along side of a pic of LM wearing it this year...nice symmetry.

Hogmanay 2010

Drams were drunk, laughs shared, mad, awesome food eaten and friendships rekindled.  I'd say a resounding success. 

I heart the symbolism in the rituals reenacted on New Years Day.  The end of a year and the fresh start in the new one.   

Here's to an airing out of the old, tired and crappy, and to the welcomed breeze of endless possibilities in a new year.

Jumping Bean

So, this was Liam's Christmas present.  He came down Christmas morning to this taking over.  It's totally awesome and takes up our entire living room.  Can't wait for warm weather again for the kids to bounce outside!

Ella LOVES it too.  Static hair and all.  Fia only likes going up and down the slide portion.

It's the perfect gift for Liam...always was and still is our "Jumping Bean".

Update:
Poor Kid woke up with sore legs.  We set up the b house and he jumped, and jumped and jumped.  Then he played PS2, all day...(he bounces when he gets excited in the game)...poor boy woke up in pain.

Homemade Christmas Ideas~Ladies Edition

Part two of my homemade Christmas series. 

  1.  Sweater bag from Perched On A Whim.  Up cycled and awesome.

  2.  A shrug.  Check out the tutorial over at Purl Bee.  By and by, PB has some fantastic ideas for the knitters out there.  Beyond my scope of ability, but pretty nonetheless. 

  3.  I heart hair accessories.  Over at Today I Made there is a super easy headband tutorial.  Too sweet, if your not into feathers, and honestly, what's wrong with you if you are not???  You can be creative and add a flower or flowers.  Not into hair bands, check out some clip options.

4.    Totally retro chic apron.  This cutie may even inspire ME to cook!  Over at A Feathered Nest, they say it's "quick & easy".

5.  Etched glass.  Bring it.  SO many options.  From monogrammed stemware, to canisters, mirrors, vases and votives.  Basically anything glass.   

Homemade Christmas Ideas~Kids

There are a lot of cheesy ideas our there.  So, blogdom, you get an early Christmas gift...some ideas that I came across that I would love to give or receive.

KIDS:

1.  Elf slippers from Maya Made. 

If I could sew, these would be on the twins feet this Christmas!

Check out her ETSY shop, she makes really great burlap bags.  Cool, unique gift to give.

2.  Fairy skirt from I Wonder Woman

This one is adjustable.  There are a lot of tutu tutorials on the web.

I'm thinking the girls NEED me to make them a tu-tu or two.  Maybe with a matching wand and some  hair clips, oh, and a tea set.

3.  Organic paint soaps.  Tree Hugging Family has a recipe for ya.

4.  If you are more techie then I am, you could tackle a USB Batman Spotlight.  Featured on Instructables.

  

 

   

simplifying

This year Bill and I are making an effort to take back Christmas and simplify it.

We have cut down on the amount of extraneous gift giving (sorry Tom, Dick & Harry).  We have discussed with friends about sharing the gift of togetherness this holiday season, rather then presents...are trying out a Secret Santa...will be giving a donation to Living Water in lieu of some gifts and will be sticking to our three gifts per kid rule. 

Also, I have been coming up with some cool homemade Christmas ideas.  Some are totally above my skill set but others are more doable for me.  I'm thinking I'll have to save some of the ideas to do next year, starting a tad earlier, so as to not stress myself out.

Already happier, and looking forward to carols and cocoa, lights and snow.
