Kindergarten

Yesterday we got some wonderful news. Our son, Liam, has a kindergarten spot at McKinley School in Pasadena. It's an "arts magnet" and at this time you can only get in by entering your name in a lottery. Can you imagine? This is really good news because we didn't want to send him to the public school in our district. This helps gives us a little direction because we know we need to stay in Pasadena, which would have been our choice anyway.

We wish we could stay in our intentional community, but we will have to move before long now that I'm not a student. One alternative would be to work for the school somehow. Then we would probably be able to stay in our current apartment.

Camel Podiatrist Wanted

I see some interesting things on the craigslist for Los Angeles, but I think the people looking for a camel podiatrist should get a special prize.

Flute Quartet

I am going to be devoting the next few months to a lot of composing practice. I have two goals: (a) to get better and (b) to create more material to choose from for my demo.

I decided to work my way through the different instruments of the orchestra and feature each one in a composition. This first one features a flute quartet: 2 flutes, 1 alto flute, and 1 bass flute. I should probably think of a better name for this, but for now, its title is Flute Quartet.

I'm Finished!

Liam and I went out a little while ago and turned in my last paper. No more seminary for me!

Meanwhile, Valerie and I are going on our first vacation alone with Liam. We're heading down to Catalina Island on Monday for a two night stay. We got a great deal on a hotel room because of the season. Among other things, we'll be taking a trip on a glass bottom boat while we're there.

Lost is Losing Me

Whatever happened to that TV show Lost? Remember when it used to be on for more than one consecutive week? I remember people defending the producers when it didn't air for several weeks back in the Fall. I think all of the excuses have run out by now.

Note to Self

Don't try to write a 12-15 page paper in 8 hours, especially when you haven't even finished taking notes.

Change of Plans

I have decided to drop my classes at Fuller for next quarter and probably will not be going back. I value what I have learned while at Fuller, but we have decided to move in a different direction. I will be taking some classes through the UCLA extension program and getting a full time job. I am going to continue to pursue a career in composing for film, etc. and would like to find a short-term job that is at least somewhat related. If you have any ideas or leads, please let me know. I plan on keeping my part time job at the church as long as it does not conflict with anything else.

You can pray for a few things if you're into that sort of thing:

  1. that I'll find a good paying job.
  2. that I'll find some good student film projects to work on.
  3. that we'll be able to find a new place to live when the time comes (we live in student housing).

I think the thing we regret the most about this decision is that we have made such great friends in our intentional community and at Fuller in general. We plan on being in the L.A. area for some time, so hopefully those friendships can continue.

Kyrie Eleison

Recently, I made a slightly souped up version of my "Kyrie Eleison" recording for a short film entitled 7:7 (directed by Andrew Oh). I worked on the vocals a bit and used a different string sound.

The track I'm posting here is yet another remix I did for demo purposes. I shortened the intro and did a little more work on the vocals! Click here to listen to the new Kyrie Eleison.

Top 15

For Sam, the film I just worked on, has made it into the top 15 for the 168 Hour Film Project. Congratulations to everybody who worked on the film!
